This article contains spoilers for Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 - Akaza’s Return.
Demon Slayer is, undoubtedly, one of the most successful shonen series ever. The story was already popular among Shonen Jump readers even before it received an anime adaptation, but its popularity really reached a unprecedented levels after that. Fans have since been hooked on this series. Demon Slayer showed just how successful it is, not only in the manga and anime departments, but also in the movie industry.
Mugen Train was Demon Slayer’s first breakthrough, becoming Japan’s number one box office hit, but Akaza’s Return is catching up, possibly ready to snatch that title. Infinity Castle: Akaza's Return was huge, and it is yet to be released in all countries. Despite all that, however, some fans have a huge complaint, and it has to do with backstories interrupting intense battles and taking up a lot of screen time.
Demon Slayer’s Backstories Have Bothered Some Fans
Some Fans Think They Interrupt The Intense Battles
It’s really hard for many fans to hate on the new Demon Slayer movie. After all, it showcased some insane animation and animated one of the most beloved arcs of the series. Nevertheless, some viewers always find a way. The biggest complaint Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 - Akaza’s Return has received concerns the backstories. A lot of fans didn’t like how they interrupted heated battles.
First, this happened in the Shinobu vs Doma fight. Shinobu was reminiscing about her days with her sister, as well as Kanae’s eventual death. Doma also had his very own backstory, revealing his life before his demon days. Then, Zenitsu vs Kaigaku started, and there, again, was some backstory. Zenitsu and Kaigaku’s days when they were training under the late Thunder Hashira, Jigoro Kuwajima, were showcased.
Finally, the most anticipated battle, Akaza vs Tanjiro and Giyu, took place. Tanjiro had his own moment, thinking back to events surrounding his father. And of course, the greatest backstory of this whole movie, Akaza’s past, was shown. The backstory was long, but great and very memorable.
It Might Annoy Some, But The Backstories Are Essential to the Story
The Complaints Of Fans Aren't Valid Since They Add To The Story
While some fans might not enjoy lore and backstories and want to focus specifically on fights, backstories have always been a huge part of the Demon Slayer series. It wasn’t really possible for the movie to put these backstories anywhere else, so they had to come in between the battles. This complaint is especially odd. After all, nobody seemed to mind the backstories in the manga. If anything, they add context, and rich emotions to characters, and that's what Demon slayer is loved for.
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 had already been released in some countries, while some others will get in in September. Fans who don’t want to wait for the movies to drop can check the manga out on Manga Plus. Meanwhile, for the anime, the series currently has 4 anime seasons. These anime seasons can all be found on Crunchyroll. The remaining part of the series will, however, be animated into movies, which fans will have to wait for their theatrical release to watch, depending on their country.
